Seed Grants

Al Jalila Foundation’s Seed Grants program supports innovative research projects in health and medicine, with a focus on basic and translational research. Funding is typically provided for up to two years, and the grants prioritize projects with the potential for future larger-scale research or broader impact.

Since 2014, Al Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health, has awarded 112 Seed Grants funding 14 research institutions in the UAE, with a total value of AED 31 million.

Research Topics and Application for the Grants

The main aim of the Seed Grants is to encourage research activities within the UAE that are of high scientific interest. Seed Grants are awarded only to research proposals that meet the minimum requirements based on their scientific worthiness.

Each application is assessed by the Scientific Advisory Committee with the support of
International Peer Reviewers (IPRs) who are experts in the proposed research topics.

The Seed Grants address the most common diseases in the UAE and the region, including but not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Cancer
  • Mental health
  • Communicable diseases

Applications are received, evaluated, selected, and archived through the Grant Management System. They are open to qualified UAE-based researchers (UAE nationals and residents) with institutional affiliation, with preference given to those who have a strong track record of publications.

Upcoming Seed Grants Edition
