As part of its ongoing efforts to help patients throughout their treatment, Al Jalila Foundation has contributed to the care of Rose Wanyoike, a 42-year-old Kenyan national, following her breast cancer diagnosis. Through its A’awen program, the Foundation covered her treatment costs, while Majlis Al Amal provided psychological and community support.
Rose’s story reflects the impact of Al Jalila Foundation, which plays a vital role in enabling Dubai Health’s vision to advance health for humanity through the integration of Care, Learning, Discovery and Giving. Through its community giving programs, the Foundation brings together healthcare and humanitarian support, helping patients to continue their treatment with confidence and reassurance.
The Beginning of the Journey
Rose’s journey with the breast cancer began in 2024, when she noticed a lump in her breast but did not initially pay it sufficient attention. As the lump grew, she sought medical attention at Dubai Health’s Dubai Hospital. Tests revealed she had breast cancer at an advanced stage.
During her treatment, however, financial circumstances prevented Rose from continuing her care. In response, Al Jalila Foundation covered the cost of her chemotherapy and targeted therapy sessions through its A’awen program, which provides medical assistance to UAE-based patients through Dubai Health facilities. This allowed her to resume treatment after a period of interruption.
Dr. Mohamed Omara, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Dubai Hospital, said: “Medical tests showed that Rose had stage four breast cancer, requiring urgent treatment. Our team closely monitored her response and progress, while helping address the challenges she faced so she could continue receiving the care she needed.”
Gratitude and Appreciation
Rose expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the support she received, saying: “Al Jalila Foundation’s support helped me resume my treatment and gave me renewed hope and confidence as I continue caring for my son and my family. I am also grateful to the medical team at Dubai Hospital for their care and encouragement throughout my treatment journey.”
She said Majlis Al Amal gave her a sense of belonging and a place to connect with women who had been through similar experiences. Sharing their stories and encouraging one another helped her feel she was not alone and that others understood what she was going through.
Breast Cancer Awareness
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rose shared a message of hope with women going through similar experiences: “I encourage every woman to look after her health, give herself time to adjust, and keep doing the things she enjoys as much as she can. Follow your doctor’s advice, stay hopeful, and trust in yourself.”
Rose continues her treatment at Dubai Hospital, with her family by her side and support from her medical team and Al Jalila Foundation. She looks forward to spending time with her family and remains hopeful about the future.
