#PINKtober Celebrates the Power of #Hope

Breast cancer affects millions of women every year and 1 in 8 women will hear the words “It’s cancer” in their lifetime. The statistics on the disease are alarming however advances in research give us hope that a cure will be found.Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to celebrate the fighters, the survivors and those we have sadly lost. Al Jalila Foundation’s annual #PINKtober campaign in partnership with Brest Friends is a month-long celebration of hope and an opportunity to spread the message that ‘breast cancer can be beaten’. #PINKtober aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and early detection and collect funds to support pioneering research to get one step closer to a cure.

Giving Creates Stronger, Happier Communities

Science shows that giving is the secret to living a life that is full of meaning, purpose, and happiness. Altruism is good for the soul. Helping others is good for our happiness and well-being. Giving connects us together and creates stronger, happier communities. Giving, and helping others, makes us feel part of something greater than ourselves and gives meaning to our lives. It is emotionally rewarding to champion a cause that we care deeply about and that has the power to improve lives.

At Al Jalila Foundation my team and I consider it a privilege to be in a position to witness the impact that our healthcare programs have on patients’ lives. Health is the cornerstone to happiness and that is why our A’awen program, that alleviates the financial burden on patients and their families so that they can focus on healing, is very close to our hearts. A’awen transforms lives and there is nothing more humbling, or that gives us greater joy, than playing a small part in that journey.

This year began with glimmers of hope for a brighter future and as we approach the middle of 2021 it is already proving to be one of resilience, rejuvenation and renewed hope.
The UAE has been exemplary in leading a triumphant COVID-19 vaccination program as the country unites in its mission to #ChooseToVaccinate. I am grateful that this pioneering spirit has allowed my team and I to be among the first in the world to be fully vaccinated and we proudly support the UAE’s efforts on its road to recovery.Al Jalila Foundation is grateful that despite the obstacles faced over the past year our community partners have remained steadfast in their support

Celebrating the Month of Giving

I am delighted that this month’s newsletter brings us into the Holy Month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a time of reflection, spending time with family and most importantly, giving to those in need. As we enter this sacred month, I would like to take the time to reflect on the past year and give special appreciation to our leaders who have steered us forward while keeping us safe. The remarkable vaccine roll out for all residents in the UAE has gained international recognition as we are on track to being amongst the first countries to reach national immunity

Giving Hope to Kidney Patients

11 March is World Kidney Day, a global campaign to raise awareness on the importance of kidney health. In the UAE chronic kidney disease is prevalent due to high instances of associated illnesses like obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease with approximately 4,500 patients suffering from kidney failure. This month, in observance of World Kidney Day we have partnered with Dubai Healthcare City, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU)‭

2020 began with great promise as we looked forward to welcoming the world to the UAE with EXPO 2020. However, events turned as the world faced an unprecedented global health crisis, the coronavirus pandemic, which affected every person around the globe. 2020 certainly tested us all but even so, despite the losses and the challenges faced, we have witnessed great learning, incredible innovation and, more than anything else, a united global front and togetherness to fight the virus
